Key Highlights:

The Educational Scholarship Loan Scheme has facilitated financial assistance to economically challenged youth for the past forty years successfully. The types of courses originally that were aided by MSS’ Educational Scholarship Loan Scheme were Trades Training and Vocational Training Diplomas by ITI. In the past ten years, a shift has been observed as applicants for the loan have shown an interest to pursue undergraduate degree courses instead of ITI training diplomas.

The scheme, in the past ten years, has been modified to adequately provide financial assistance for undergraduate degree courses, and for some applicants, post graduate degree courses as well. This modification of the scheme was possible with the assistance of donors whose generous contributions have not only enabled Maria Seva Sangha to continue to assist deserving students to pursue and complete their education, but also enable them to pursue a degree of their choice and acquire that qualification. Donors who wish to sponsor the education of students without repayment, is welcomed.

The scheme has dispensed loans for students to pursue their education and acquire undergraduate degrees in BA, B.Ed, LLB, B.Com, BBA, BBM, BCA, B.Sc, BE, Physiotherapy (BTP), Computer Science and MBBS. The scheme has dispersed loans to students pursuing post-graduate education in MA, M.Com, MBA, MCA, Avionics, and Physiotherapy. In addition to degree courses, the scheme has dispersed loans to applicants pursuing skills training diplomas in Counselling Skills, IT and Electronics.

About the Educational Fellowship Program

The Education Fellowship Program is an initiative of Maria Seva Sangha (MSS) to provide financial assistance to deserving students from economically challenged backgrounds to pursue their education post PUC/ Std XII. Under this initiative, MSS gives Interest Free Loans to deserving students on a means-cum-merit basis, to enable them to pursue further technical/ professional studies to give them an occupation and a set-up in life.

Criteria for loan eligibility:

• The applicant should be between 18-25 years of age for degree course applicants, and 14-35 years of age for ITI applicants.
• The applicant should have secured at least 60% marks in Std X and Std XII/ PUC final exams for degree course applicants, and 45% marks in Std VIII/ Std X/ Std XII/ PUC for ITI applicants.
• The family income should not exceed Rs. 5 lakhs per annum.
• The parents’/ guardian’s consent for the application and repayment of the loan is mandatory.
• Two guarantors who will take full responsibility to repay the amount on or before the due date, in case of default by the student, are mandatory.
• A letter of recommendation by the Head of the institution, Administrator/ Class 1 Gazetted officer/ Corporator/ Parish Priest in case of Catholics, should be submitted with the application.
• Details of the Institution and a copy of the prospectus should be submitted with the application.

Important Points to Note:

• This Loan Scholarship scheme is open to all students who fulfill the eligibility criteria indicated.
• This is an interest free educational loan, repayable in convenient installments.
• The loan is disbursed directly to the educational institution and not the student.
• Prompt repayment of the loan is mandatory so that the funds for the loan resources of MSS can be replenished and redistributed, in order to benefit more students who need this facility.
• The MAXIMUM amount available per student for one academic year is Rs. 75,000/- or the tuition/course fees for the year, whichever is lower.
• REPAYMENT is to be COMPLETED within TWELVE MONTHS of receiving the Loan Scholarship.
• All the repayment installments are to be made from a designated account (ie. the student’s bank account), and should include the student’s name.
• MSS will continue to grant the interest free loan to students, who repay the amount in full and have passed the exam, till their degree is completed.
